 HOLODOMOR 1932-33

Dr. Charles Tannock

Dear Myron Sozanskyj

I am very sympathetic to your campaign as I coauthored an EP Written
Declaration on this very issue at the request of the Government of
Ukraine which sadly in spite of much lobbying failed to secure a
majority of the European Parliament and we will now try again to do
likewise via a resolutiojn of the EPP-ED Group led by my Polish
colleagues. I do not understand why the CRE or HMG decline support for
this unless it is a desire to appease Russia and I have no doubt
personally about the scale and intentions of Stalin's atrocity during
the Holodomor. I will forward the date of the vigil to my London
secretary and if possible attend. For the record I am a holder of the
'Order of Merit'(Za Zaslugyi) of Ukraine and Vice President of the
European Parliaments Delegation to Ukraine and if you Google me under
Ukraine will find the many things I have done in defence of this great
country and its EU aspirations in the past.

best wishes

Dear Myron Sozansky

Thank you for letting me know about this event. Unfortunately I am in
the US now and I shall be on my way back from Germany on the 23rd, so
I can't be a lot of use in this. I haven't seen Geoff Hoon's
statement, but will try to find it on the internet.
Best wishes,
Marina

Dear Mr Sozanskyi,

Thank you very much for your e-mail.

I completely agree that we need to ensure that all the genocidal
atrocities of the past need to be commemorated if we are to properly
understand our history, and our present, and to educate future
generations in the consequences of man's inhumanity to man. Ukraine,
Armenia, East  Timor all spring to mind, in this context,  although it
remains true that Hitler's deliberate and industrialised slaughter  of
the Jews, Poles, Gypsies and others must be at the heart of Holocaust
Remembrance day.  I will have a look at the link you enclose, and am
happy for you to ensure that I am properly informed about what is yet
another dark chapter of human history.

Yours sincerely,

Karen Buck
